NOORDHOEK ACTIVITIES
Noordhoek Beach:
This 8km stretch of pristine white beach is also known as known as Long Beach as it stretches all the way to Kommetjie. The beach is ideal for long leisurely walks, surfing, kitesurfing and horseriding. The Kakapo shipwreck on Noordhoek beach is a comfortable walk. This ship ran aground in 1900.
Horse riding:
Horse riding on Noordhoek beach is recommended for a close up natural experience or purely absorbing the atmosphere with a walk or sundowners and take a moment to appreciate the ancient milkwood forest.
Surfing:
Surfing is part and parcel of life in Noordhoek with some excellent conditions. Contact Noordhoek Tourism for surfing operators who can guide you to the best surf spots and give you key local insider information or provide tuition for improving your skills. Kitesurfing is becoming more common on Noordhoek beach.
Shopping in Noordhoek:
African crafts, antiques, handmade ceramics, ethnic clothing, home produce, wine and of course works of art can be found at Noordhoek Farm Village. For Retail therapy there is a modern mall with a world of shopping and entertainment where you’ll find both local and latest fashion, home and interior stores, technical assistance for phone or cameras, travel help, services and banks and more than enough cuisine and cappaccinos for any palate.
Red Herring Trading Post:
Set amongst ancient milkwood trees you will find an art gallery, pottery workshop, crafts, a plant nursery and a restaurant.
Hiking:
Hiking in the mountains surrounding the Noordhoek Valley provides superb views of the area. It is relatively simple to obtain a local guide or join one of the groups who go on regular walks. Noordhoek Peak is one of the most enjoyable excursions with views of both the Noordhoek Valley and Hout Bay. Hikes vary from 1 to 4 hours
Table Mountain National Park - Silvermine Nature Reserve:
This section of Table Mountain National Park is accessed from Ou Kaapse Weg (the Old Cape Road). Silvermine Reserve has spectacular panoramic views set amongst a rich diversity of natural Cape Fynbos.. The Silvermine Reserve offers clearly-marked mountain bike and walking trails and is a favourite with families, hikers and mountain climbers.
Chapman’s Peak Drive:
‘Chappies’, as it is fondly called, is one of Cape Town and South Africa’s most scenic marine drives and runs from Noordhoek to Hout Bay. The 9km route with 114 curves is now a toll-road and can be subject to temporary road closures in adverse weather conditions. Call Noordhoek Tourism office to confirm whether or not the road is open
Bird Watching:
Twitchers will relish the bird life that is found in the Noordhoek wetlands. In the wetlands you are likely to spot marsh, scrub and wetland specied including Grey Heron, Little Bittern, Egyptian Goose, African Marsh Harrier, Spotted Dikkop, Blacksmith Plover, Burchell's Coucal, African Sedge Warbler, Le Vaillant's Cisticola, Karoo Prinia.
